Mais de 20 anos após sua morte, um novo álbum de Aaliyah está a caminho. Meses atrás, finalmente recebemos sua discografia completa em plataformas de streaming após décadas de reclamação quando seu tio, Barry Hankerson, decidiu que era hora de lançar os catálogos de sua gravadora. Com a chegada da discografia da ex cantora, também veio a notícia de que um novo álbum estava a caminho, e recentemente relatamos que o álbum, “Unstoppable”, está chegando em algum momento deste mês.
Nascida no Brooklyn e criada em Detroit, ela ganhou reconhecimento pela primeira vez aos 10 anos, quando apareceu no programa de TV Star Search e, posteriormente, ao se apresentar ao lado de Gladys Knight em um show ocorrido em Las Vegas. Aos 12 anos, Aaliyah assinou com a Jive Records e com a gravadora Blackground Records, criada pelo seu tio Barry Henkerson. Três anos depois, seu primeiro álbum Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number (1994) foi lançado.
Ainda não foi dada uma data de lançamento oficial, mas Hankerson compartilhou o que os fãs podem esperar, incluindo participações. Digamos apenas que muitos fãs da falecida cantora não estão entusiasmados com o álbum. “Uma das músicas que está saindo agora está indo incrivelmente bem. E essa é a música que ela fez com Weeknd”, revelou Hankerson no The Geno Jones Show, mencionando a faixa póstuma da cantora com The Weeknd.
“Por causa desse sucesso, achamos que só vai ficar melhor com pessoas como Ne-Yo e Snoop Dogg, Future e Drake – um de seus maiores fãs. Esses são as participações que estarão no álbum e que estarei lançando em janeiro”.
Enquanto isso, a reação de seus fãs se espalhou, já que as pessoas acusaram Hankerson de usar sua sobrinha falecida para ganhar vantagem financeira. Outros perguntaram sobre o que a família dela pensa sobre o lançamento de “Unstoppable”, e alguns não estão interessados na lista de participações, observando que apenas homens foram listados e os amigos de Aaliyah, como Missy Elliott, não foram mencionados.

Aaliyah’s discography is already good, now y’all are going to release a posthumous studio album compiled of her unreleased masters, and then add some not even half good new artists from this generation as a feature. I think not.
